Making Playlists on Spotify

December 7, 2012 // Posted in Life, Technology, Tunes, Web (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Making Playlists on Spotify

One of my new electronic joys is Spotify – the free music service. I love this site! I get to play all the free music that I like – all day and all night. They have all kinds of music, I was able to find 98% of the songs that I like and want to hear.

The way Spotify works is that you make playlists of all the songs that you want to hear. If you don’t want to make your own playlists, you can browse through playlists that other people made and listen to their favorite songs.

I made a playlist called (boringly enough) Adult Contemporary. I couldn’t think of any other way to describe the music that I like and wanted to listen to during the day while I’m working or driving. So I started adding songs and exploring around the site and making note of songs that I hear on the radio and next thing you know I have this huge playlist of really kick ass songs. And other people somehow started finding my playlist and listening to it, too. Spotify has a way to subscribe to the playlist so that if I add an y new songs you automatically get to hear the new songs, too.

So now I have about 14 hours worth of hand picked songs that I like and I have this huge list of people subscribing to my playlist. I’ve never met or talked to any of these people, but i think it is pretty damn cool that so many people like my music enough that they subscribed to my list. Woot!

Ordering Online is a Bitch

So I wanted to order some flowers to send to my brother’s house. He was throwing a huge party for my mom’s birthday and since I couldn’t make it up there for the party I wanted to send her some flowers. I figured I would call an FTD florist or maybe a Teleflora shop or 1-800-FLOWERS and see if I could get a nice arrangement for about $50-$60.

I went online and checked the different sites and what their arrangements looked like and decided to get an FTD floral centerpiece with a hurricane lamp. I know I can get those glass hurricane lamps here at the Pottery barn for like $4, but the arrangements that had the hurricane glas started at $100.

That’s a pretty big difference between what they are charging and what I wanted to spend, so I decided to check online for any discount coupon codes or special deals and I did find a good one for 20% off site wide. I clicked on that puppy and sure enough they marked the price of the arrangement I wanted down to $80. But then when they added the delivery charge and service fee and tax to the order, it went right back up to $100. It was like they were determined to get $100 out of my ass one way or the other.

Using the online shopping cart was a bit of a pain in the ass but I got through it. I spent more money that I wanted and I can’t help but think that if I had been able to talk to the florist at the shop in person instead of ordering it online from their limited selection that I could have saved some money and stayed closer to my budget.

But, all in all, its for my mom and I really wish I could have been there at her party to wish her a happy birthday in person and give her a big hug. But I hope she and the other party guests enjoyed the flowers that I sent.

Called GoDaddy Tech Support – It Was Awesome

October 4, 2012 // Posted in Blogs, Technology, Web (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Called GoDaddy Tech Support – It Was Awesome

Had a weird problem with my blog last night and I called GoDaddy technical support to ask for help. This is the best damn thing about GoDaddy – they have live tech support guys there to answer the phone, 24/7. Some other hosting companies make you send in a trouble ticket and wait for them to get back with you. I actually had to wait for 3 days with one company and then the answer they sent back by email wasn’t the solution and I had to send in ANOTHER trouble ticket and wait another fucking day!

The GoDaddy guys seem to know every answer right on top of their head and they are so patient with me. I had a guy who walked me though it step by step and then he also sent me an email with a link to a tutorial in case I have to do it again. That was top notch customer service and I am so very grateful to GoDaddy for making the help available by phone. It was the BEST!

New Looks

The color and design of my blog that you see is called a theme. It is free from the WordPress collection online at WordPress.com. You can change the look of other things but they are called different names. I can change the color scheme of my Firefox browser, but that is called a persona. And the look on my cell phone is called a skin. It is all pretty much the same thing, the color and graphics that you look at, often as a border or background on the equipment.
