Thief in the Night

December 27, 2017 // Posted in Life, Shopping, Technology (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Thief in the Night

Alas, sadly, this is another post about my car. Last night, while I was sleeping, someone stole the catalytic converter from my parked car! What? I was shocked! I had never heard such a thing in my life.

It turns out stealing catalytic converters is big business these days and far more common that you might think. An aggressive thief can steal as many as 10-15 in a single day. The catalytic converters can sell for $20 to $240 and some thieves have boasted they can be removed in less than a minute. SUV’s are often targeted because they are higher off of the ground and may not even require a jack to get underneath and cut off the catalytic converter.

The are stolen because they contain precious metals such as platinum, palladium or rhodium. They are required by local governments because they mitigate pollutants and other emissions from your car. Your vehicle will not pass an emissions test without a catalytic converter, and some cars won’t operate at all without one.

Repairs after the catalytic converter has been stolen can cost $500-$2300 depending on whether the vehicle is significantly damaged in the process. Some people go as far as having a cage placed around the new catalytic converter to prevent it being stolen again. Another suggestion is to have your VIN number etched onto the replacement.

I have even heard of catalytic converters being stolen in shopping center parking lots. For someone who knows what they are doing, they can get under your car, cut off the catalytic converter, and be gone within minutes while you are shopping an totally unaware that your car was a target.

From now on, I will be parking as close to entrances of buildings and shopping centers as I can get, and in a well lit area if possible.

Making Playlists on Spotify

December 7, 2012 // Posted in Life, Technology, Tunes, Web (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Making Playlists on Spotify

One of my new electronic joys is Spotify – the free music service. I love this site! I get to play all the free music that I like – all day and all night. They have all kinds of music, I was able to find 98% of the songs that I like and want to hear.

The way Spotify works is that you make playlists of all the songs that you want to hear. If you don’t want to make your own playlists, you can browse through playlists that other people made and listen to their favorite songs.

I made a playlist called (boringly enough) Adult Contemporary. I couldn’t think of any other way to describe the music that I like and wanted to listen to during the day while I’m working or driving. So I started adding songs and exploring around the site and making note of songs that I hear on the radio and next thing you know I have this huge playlist of really kick ass songs. And other people somehow started finding my playlist and listening to it, too. Spotify has a way to subscribe to the playlist so that if I add an y new songs you automatically get to hear the new songs, too.

So now I have about 14 hours worth of hand picked songs that I like and I have this huge list of people subscribing to my playlist. I’ve never met or talked to any of these people, but i think it is pretty damn cool that so many people like my music enough that they subscribed to my list. Woot!

Called GoDaddy Tech Support – It Was Awesome

October 4, 2012 // Posted in Blogs, Technology, Web (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Called GoDaddy Tech Support – It Was Awesome

Had a weird problem with my blog last night and I called GoDaddy technical support to ask for help. This is the best damn thing about GoDaddy – they have live tech support guys there to answer the phone, 24/7. Some other hosting companies make you send in a trouble ticket and wait for them to get back with you. I actually had to wait for 3 days with one company and then the answer they sent back by email wasn’t the solution and I had to send in ANOTHER trouble ticket and wait another fucking day!

The GoDaddy guys seem to know every answer right on top of their head and they are so patient with me. I had a guy who walked me though it step by step and then he also sent me an email with a link to a tutorial in case I have to do it again. That was top notch customer service and I am so very grateful to GoDaddy for making the help available by phone. It was the BEST!

Can’t Find my Fucking Phone

October 2, 2012 // Posted in Life, Technology (Tags: , , ) |  Comments Off on Can’t Find my Fucking Phone

What the hell was wrong with me last night that I couldn’t get my cell phone to the dresser in my bedroom and plug it in to recharge overnight? I went to get my cell phone to put it in my purse this morning and it wasn’t on the charger. So I don’t know where the hell it would be. I looked all over the fucking house and can’t find it.

It doesn’t do any good to call the fucking phone because the fucking batteries are dead now and it won’t ring anyway. FML!

That’s it ! I am buying a fucking smart phone. I am tired of watching all my friends playing with theirs and I am still carrying this stupid ass blackberry that doesn’t do anything. So now I am searching for a phone, with a plan that doesn’t break my bank account. i really would like an android, because there are a lot of free apps for them online. I guess we shall see.
